It’s called sextortion, and though you might think it just impacts girls, teenage boys are the main target. Predators go online, pose as a fellow teen who’s super into you, then trick you into sending them nudes or getting naked on a livestream. Once they have your photo, video, or secretly record your livestream, they threaten to send it to your friends and family… unless you pay them.

Randoms sliding into your DMs

Most online predators pose as teen girls or guys to get you to let your guard down. They’ll say nice things, compliment you, and act flirty. Don’t get tricked. Never believe a random baddie.

Pushing to chat in private

After chatting with you online for a bit, they’ll try to move the convo to somewhere more private (and more encrypted). Luring teens from IG to Snap is the most common. But luring them to WhatsApp, Discord, and even FB Messenger (we know…gross) are too.

Unprompted nudes

Sextortion usually starts with someone sharing a nude pic with you, and then, they’ll pressure you to send one in return and that’s when the sextortion starts. If it seems like it’s too good (and nude) to be true, it probably is.

What to do if it happens to your d*ck.

Don’t panic.
It’s not your fault. It can (and does) happen to anyone. The most important thing you can do is stay calm and get help right away.
Don’t pay them.
Sending money, gift cards or more nudes won’t end the sextortion cycle. It’ll just encourage the predator to ask for more, and unfortunately, it’ll never be enough.
Don’t delete your account.
Instead, stop engaging with the predator, take screenshots of the communication (keep those receipts), and block their account. Authorities need that ammo to go after online predators.
Don’t stay silent.
Report it on the app you’re using, and tell an adult who can help. There’s a ton of organizations dedicated to helping teens out of sextortion, so you don’t have to navigate it by yourself.
